Villainess Mangas Where the Male Lead is Good Guy!

Tired of toxic, braindead, overzealous male leads with their questionable motives? Are you tired of male leads that just have one thing in mind, to cancel the female lead? Are you tired of dumb and often times cringe-y characters that makes side-characters with 1 panel appearances feel smarter? Well then, this article is all for you! While it is true that dumb and toxic male leads are somewhat uncommon in the Japanese manga sphere, and is like a staple on the Korean manhwa way of life, there are quite a few Mangas out there that somewhat nail it right. Therefore, we've read through literally every villainess manga in existence, both translated and completely untranslated, and picked our top three mangas where the male lead is quite normal and sweet. And obviously none of the characteristics mentioned on the starting of this paragraph. We've also left out the mangas where the male leads are overly obsessed with the female lead, which, while enjoyable to some, the "overly obsessed" characteristic isn't in favor of a lot of people's palates. Therefore, we present you, the top three villainess mangas where the male leads are pretty normal, and sweet!

Previously, I Used to be a Disqualified Daughter of the Duke

The first manga on our list. The protagonist of this manga, Claire, was forced to flee her country when her little sister framed her of abusing her out of jealousy and annulled her engagement, thereby ruining Claire's reputation in the noble sphere. Claire, not wanting to be put under "unofficial house arrest" by her father, decided to flee her country and start a new life. While doing so, she met some strangers along the way and started settling down on her new life in the new kingdom. The relationship between the two are on the mutual taking-care-of each other side. The male lead of this manga is Vick, and he helps our protagonist along her journey. From helping her on traveling and eventually settling down on the new kingdom, Vick helps her a lot! The relationship between Vick and Claire is quite heartwarming where mutual responsibility is highly emphasized. Vick always tries to help Claire in each and every way and Claire tries to make sure she isn't a burden to him. Once settled, Claire helps Vick in clearing up emergency after emergency, often times potentially life threating ones, and eventually the bond between themselves deepens. The manga offers a cast of likeable and supportive characters and they contribute to the richness of the story. While the manga does have some plot holes the author couldn't possibly fill on time, they are not story-shattering, so they wouldn't be affecting the readablility of the story a bit.

Since A Saintess is Coming From Another World, I, the Hindrance, Want to Disappear

The second manga on our list. Shortly before being married off to a distant land filled with miasma, she gets back her memories from her previous life and learns that she is a villainess of an otome game, and she will be executed by the crown prince in all of the routes. Not wanting to lose her life, she decides to try to avoid all interactions with the Crown Prince William and the Saintess Sara, so that when the execution flag comes, she can annul the engagement peacefully and live as a commoner selling medicine. But it seems fate is, heavily deviating her from her plan!?
This manga's male lead falls somewhat into the doting side, where the male lead dotes on the female lead, and the female lead doesn't hold much romantic value for the male lead. William is, quite good at pick-up lines and won't fail to startle our protagonist Felicia in the process. The manga is full of comedy, much of which stems from Felicia's reactions to William's pick-up lines. The protagonist Felicia is very kind, understandable and heartwarming, making her easily resonate with the readers. Even though trying to avoid interacting with the Saintess Sara, she becomes friends with her as Sara and Felicia's hobbies align, and Felicia being able to interact with Sara easily as she has her memories from her previous life and she can freely talk to her all without revealing that she was once from Japan. The manga is an absolute treasure trove of deep world building and likeable characters, but sadly as of writing this article, the manga only has 2 chapters released as translations. And none of the English publishers have picked up this manga yet, so you will have to resort to the Syosetu web novel if you want to read the story beyond Chapter 2. The web novel is free and machine translations seem readable which is what I had to do because the two chapters had me captivated lmao, too captivated in fact and this remains my most favorite villainess manga of all time for its deep lore building, cast of likeable characters, William's clever pick-up lines, and of course, Felicia's cute reactions! If I had to choose between which one to read among these two, I'd 100% pick this one as this manga is overly perfect in every single way.

There you have it. I've only covered two mangas in this article, both of which are underrated, so I hope you'll enjoy reading them. Also, do consider bookmarking this website if my line of covering villainess manga topics interest you, as we usually do not rank on Google search, so if we've covered a niche topic already, it'd be next to impossible to find about it using Google search. See you on the next article!

Haru's Curse

Natsumi just lost her younger sister, Haru, to cancer. As her sister's coffin finally closes for the last time she whispers "Wait for me until I join you," but Haru's fiancé, Tougo has other plans which might mend both their hearts.

The manga's main focus is on the relationship between Natsumi, and her dead sister's fiance, Tougo. Natsumi's mentality due to the aftermath of her sister's death at first was quite "unstable", and Tougo is the person who kept her from falling into trouble. The protagonist Natsumi is a well-written character and she is quite distinct from other psychological mangas. She starts the manga being mentally unstable (due to circumstances which will be explained in the manga) and gradually starts becoming stable thanks to Tougo. The interactions between the two are heartwarming, and they get to know each other's backstories and what made them what they are. The pacing of the story was so good and it didn't let me sleep until I read all 8 chapters lmao. Do keep 2 hours at hand when you read the first chapters because trust me, you might need it!

Seinen Isekai Villainess Mangas for Guys!

While villainess mangas are usually geared towards Shoujo and Josei demographics, there are still a few Shounen and Seinen Villainess mangas out there, and thankfully, the numbers are growing considerably thanks to the recent surge of interest in the villainess manga market. Now then, I present you the best villainess manga recommendations for guys! (Shounen and Seinen).

Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess!

MangaDex Synopsis: I, Yvonne, reincarnated into an otome game as the rich villainess. According to the game's plot, a character loathed by everyone such as myself has the main role of bullying the heroine, pushing her towards the various love interests' romantic routes. But it seems like there's something wrong with Elsa, the heroine! She's getting too close to me!

Comment: The GOAT of Yuri Villainess x Heroine mangas. I have nothing more to say. The artwork is gorgeous. The story is very well written. The characters are very distinct both in terms of appearance and behavior and the Yuri between the two is off limits! If you're looking for any villainess manga with yuri, this has to be it! Seriously, do check out at least the first episode if you haven't already as it couldn't be any better.

A Villainess? No, a Heinous Young Lady

MangaDex Synopsis: Rosalia, a Marquis’ daughter, for some reason only lived within the premises of the Marquis’ residence. One day when she was sixteen, she fell in love with a red headed knight who wandered into the garden by accident. It was at that moment the powerful Marquis’ daughter felt something trigger― A knight who is a reincarnator, but doesn’t realize that he’s a capture target in an otome game and the main villainess, who began to change once she met the knight.
The heroine who has been reborn with the knowledge of the game would be the fall of Rosalia, however, it does not go through according to the scenario…
“What are you?! You’re the villainess, aren’t you?”
“Villainess? You think I could play such an outrageous role? I am a genuine heinous lady.”

Comment: The villainess is a reincarnator who knows the story of the game. And the male lead of this game is also a reincarnator, or... should we call it, possessed? as our Red-headed knight male lead was possessed by someone who came from "another world", presumably Japan and he also knows this world is in a game as his sister used to play the game, and so he knows only a few key points. The male lead is quite simple and he tries to warn our villainess from the heroine's mischief. While our villainess, also knowing the story of the game, evades the heroine's shenanigans masterfully.

The Villainess Became a Commoner

MangaDex Synopsis: An ordinary office worker was killed one day with a poisonous burger given to him by his co-worker and when he wakes up, he finds himself in the body of Kisaragi Kotone, an egotistic and affluent (local bully) young lady who had just been disowned by her family. After inheriting the life of a girl who is despised by everyone around her, he makes a decision to live a normal life. However, because of Kotone's reputation, he finds that his goal will be difficult to achieve.

Comment: Yuri-ish(?) Gender bender. Kisaragi Kotone was a famous local bully who's mischief was known across town. As our male protagonist possesses the body of Kotone after dying, he finds that trying to do regular things is quite hard as Kotone has a hideous reputation. This is a story of him trying to make new life while also undo-ing all the problems Kotone has caused. Something to note, the Syosetu web novel goes a lot farther than the manga. And it seems that the manga was closed at Chapter 11 due to poor sales. But the manga is unofficially translated to Chapter 8 as of writing, so you're not going to miss a lot.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady

MangaDex Synopsis: Despite her supposed ineptitude with regular magic, Princess Anisphia defies the aristocracy's expectations by developing "magicology," a unique magical theory based on memories from her past life. One day, she witnesses the brilliant noblewoman Euphyllia unjustly stripped of her title as the kingdom's next monarch. That's when Anisphia concocts a plan to help Euphyllia regain her good name-which somehow involves them living together and researching magic! Little do these two ladies know, however, that their chance encounter will alter not only their own futures, but those of the kingdom...and the entire world!

Comment: Action Villainess manga with a bit of Yuri. Both the main characters are sassy and comedic. Though it's not a romance manga. The story is somewhat lightweight and despite it's Seinen tag, it more of acts like a Shounen. The action and the bond between the two characters are supposed to be the main focus point of the story / manga and so it'll be enjoyable.
